June 24, 2000
Texas-born pop princess Jessica Simpson
and stage star Jason Raize, who appeared on
Broadway as Simba in "The Lion
King," belt out hits from their debut
albums at a concert taped in Hollywood.
Simpson, who says she's "a nut for
music," showcases her powerful pipes in
a set that includes the energetic "I've
Got My Eyes on You" and her
chart-topping ballad, "I Wanna Love You
                            Forever." She also performs "Where
You Are" in a stirring duet with
boyfriend Nick Lachey of 98 Degrees. Raize
talks about his transition from actor to pop
singer, and sings "You Win Again"
and the upbeat "NYC," a tribute to
                            his adopted home town.

There's more white teeth and bouncy choreography on hand at 6:30 p.m. Saturday on the Disney Channel (Cox Cable Channel 32, Heartland Cable Channel 42) with "Jessica Simpson &  Jason Raize  in Concert,'' each performing numbers from their debut albums. The latest in a series of Disney Channel concert specials, this one will provide a little more bang for the buck than the ABC broadcast by alternating performance footage with backstage moments designed to give fans a feel for the singers' private lives and personalities. As an added bonus, Nick Lachey of the group 98 Degrees will join Simpson onstage to recreate the duet "Where You Are'' which they recorded for Simpson's album.
